Q&A with Rosie - From Anger to Excitement

Rosie was angry at the world, unhappy and fearful of people. Her way of reducing anger was to stay away from people. In fact, she was prepared to go and live in a cave with her beloved dog.

She’s now thinking about buying a house that has plenty of space for her very cute boyfriend and the dog!

Quite the transformation.

On Sunday I did I quick Q&A with her, so you can get a feel for her experience and learn more about Genius You.

Tell me a bit about yourself?

  • I am Rosie

  • I am 24

  • I was born, raised and live in Auckland.

  • I work for a big distribution company in the finance department.

  • I have been there for 6 years.

  • And I have nearly finished my Commerce Degree.

How would you describe GY?

It is like a detangler. It takes all of your life, all of the mess, and it untangles it. It separates all of the crap and misinterpretations, so you are just left with the truth. It then teaches you how to understand things, so you can get on with life, and enjoy it, and live it properly.

Who is it for?

It’s for everyone, we all need to understand ourselves.

How did you get to GY?

I saw it work on someone else a friend and colleague. I watched their confidence rise and they took control over their life.

I am not someone who tries random things easily. I like to scope it out first. Watching it work so well with my friend, meant that my scoping was complete and I could begin.

What did you want/expect?

I think I expected you to fix everything for me and that it would be easy. It’s not anything like this, which I found out was a good thing.

What I saw happen with my friend was the end result, not the process it took to get there. It is harder than what I expected because I had to do the work. It is a process that you taught me to do, to and for myself. But because of this, I appreciated the results so much more.

What did you get out of Genius You?

So much clarity and understanding. I also got completely unwavering support from you. You acted as a guide, as opposed to someone who says we are doing this now. Some of the other programmes that I looked at tell you to do this and that, go to bed at this time. But you don’t actually learn that way.

How do you learn in Genius You?

I learnt by using my life as the content; using my stories and experiences as a way of seeing and developing an understanding at a level that was deep enough to get the full picture.

But the process wasn’t one-sided. I learnt a lot from your experiences. You were very open and I could see that you are constantly doing the work and this helped me too.

What was the journey like to get there?

You heal your past as you learn to understand it through a new lens. One that makes sense of everything, which means it stops hurting.

You learn the skills, then hone and master them.

You learn how to interrupt and handle emotions. You learn which emotions are core and which ones are manufactured and therefore a waste of time to try and resolve. This was a big part for me. It was a game-changer as I could drop my defence and learn how to use my real emotions effectively. This then, let me move forward.

What’s the biggest difference that is has made for you?

This might sound small but it’s huge - self-trust. I now feel like I have a million options. Everything is possible, as I don’t need to hide or create a safe space if I can’t handle things. I can process any issues that come up, which then makes me better.

The process of Genius You allows me to resolve an issue and make me stronger. I almost feel excitement when an issue comes up, as it’s going to enable me to hone and improve. In a nutshell, I’ve replaced anxiety with excitement.

What’s the hardest part?

Realising that you are the root of all your problems. This is the hardest part and the best bit, as you realise that you have the power to change your circumstances. If something is not working, it can be fixed.

What would you say to people who face this bit?

Don’t be ashamed because we all do it. If you can acknowledge that, without self-loathing, then you will realise it is all good news. The world is not against you, it is how you are interpreting things and reacting to things. When you get this, you can be awesome.

How would you describe defence?

Defence is a reaction that tries to remedy a trauma, but it actually makes it much worse. By allowing defence to happen we often deepen our trauma.

What is defence smashing to you?

Seeing our thinking and behaviour for what it is and making a plan to properly resolve things. Defence smashing is liberating.

What’s next for you?

More of the same stuff.

I don’t think that there is an ‘I’m finished moment’. Once you’ve started learning this, you can’t stop. And I don’t need you to do it. I know you are there, but you’ve now taught me to do this by myself.

And the outcomes?

My life feels limitless now. I don’t mean that in a way where I am going to buy a superyacht. But if I want to do something now, I know it’s achievable.

All the limiting things I have told me about myself or others have told me, they are not true. I feel so much more optimistic about life and feel much safer.

What am I like?

You are a queen! An absolute queen. You can see all the things that you don’t want to see about yourself. But you deliver it in a respectful and kind way. You are a tremendous guide and you are hilarious.

Give me a summary

This journey started off being about a whole lot of people who were the problem. At some point, I saw that it was all about me. Which was a relief, because it’s impossible to fix all those people but relatively easy to fix yourself. Now everything is nice.
